Ninth “Mission: Impossible” Could Happen

Paramount Pictures

After years in the works, the Tom Cruise-led “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” finally arrives in cinemas shortly.

The seventh overall film in the franchise, it precedes the second part of the ‘Dead Reckoning’ story which is still in production ahead of a release June 2024.

For a while, it has been believed that film, the eighth, will serve as Tom Cruise’s final outing as Ethan Hunt and an end to the franchise.

Yet according to a new interview by Fandango with the director of both films, Christopher McQuarrie, that may not be the case. Speaking to the filmmaker in Rome, the outlet tweeted:

“#MissionImpossible director Christopher McQuarrie tells Fandango that #DeadReckoning Parts 1 & 2 are not the end of the series, and they already have ideas for what comes next.”

It sounds like Cruise isn’t planning to stop anytime soon. Next month’s film has been confirmed to be the longest film in the franchise yet, with a runtime of 156 minutes without credits.

The new film begins with Ethan Hunt and his team seeking a bioweapon that threatens humanity’s very existence. Meanwhile enemies from Ethan’s past are catching up to him which puts the mission in jeopardy and his team’s lives on the line.

Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, and Henry Czerny are all returning while Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff and Esai Morales also join the cast.

“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” opens in cinemas on July 12th.
