McQuarrie Teases An ‘Outrageous’ M:I-8

Whilst “Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” will be upon us in a few weeks, its follow-up is still in the works ahead of a planned release in Summer 2024.

Filming on the first part was completed back in late 2021, and production began on the second part a year ago with the earlier parts of shooting taking place in both South Africa and somewhere in the Arctic.

‘Part One’ had seen star Tom Cruise, director Christopher McQuarrie and the entire production team start with one of the film’s most significant stunt scenes first – the motorbike jump off a cliff in Norway.

That was a deliberate choice, says McQuarrie, who adds to Empire that the scale of the sequel will see set pieces that dwarf its predecessor:

“Tom and I are always trying to get the big s— out of the way first. South Africa was intense. The aerial sequence is… it’s just outrageous. The thing to remember as you’re watching this monster [aka. Part One] is that another monster waits behind it.”

The comments come as ‘Part Two’ has stalled production due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike. The outlet claims that the second part is roughly 40% completed but the strike has “stopped McQuarrie in his tracks”.

For now, that second part remains on track for a June 2024 release, whilst the first hits cinemas next month on July 12th.
