Corenswet, Hoult In The Mix For “Superman”

Netflix, Hulu

Casting for James Gunn’s “Superman: Legacy” film is heating up, with multiple names emerging as contenders for the major roles in the film.

According to THR, actor David Corenswet (“Pearl,” “Hollywood”) is among the top contenders to play Clark Kent/Superman and has advanced enough for a screen test taking place after Memorial Day or early June.

Two other contenders are also reportedly up for the role, but their identities remain unknown. British actors Tom Brittney (“Grantchester”) and Andrew Richardson (“A Call to Spy”) were also said to be in the mix early on, but it sounds like that may no longer be the case.

One person who is seemingly out is Australian actor Jacob Elordi of “Euphoria” fame. He was reportedly another name that surfaced, but the trade indicates the actor never submitted himself for the process.

In terms of Lois Lane, Emmy-winning “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” star Rachel Brosnahan was said to have offered an “outstanding” audition. Also said to be in the running are Australia’s Samara Weaving (“Ready or Not”), Britain’s Phoebe Dynevor (“Bridgerton”) and France’s Emma Mackey (“Death on the Nile”).

There is one role that seems to be almost a lock and only has one name attached – Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Hoult was previously the runner-up to play Batman for Matt Reeves before Robert Pattinson was cast.

Sources for the trade caution that some of these are not screen testing, they’ve merely been in the mix. One insider indicates the filmmakers and studio “are nowhere near a decision.”
