The BBC has released a new 40-second teaser for the three 60th anniversary specials of “Doctor Who” due out in November, the clip also reveals the titles for the three episodes. They are:
“The Star Beast,” “Wild Blue Yonder” and “The Giggle” will be the titles of the episodes which will feature David Tennant as the fourteenth incarnation of The Doctor (he previously played the tenth) whilst Catherine Tate returns as Donna Noble.
Also featured are Yasmin Finney as Donna’s daughter Rose, and a better look at Neil Patrick Harris as the film’s villain – believed to be a new version of The Celestial Toymaker played by Tim Burton’s “Batman” alum Michael Gough in the original 1960s series.
The teaser begins with the question as to why Tennant’s “face” has come back – a mystery to be solved at some point in the specials. It’s not the first time The Doctor’s face has had a mystery element, Peter Capaldi’s incarnation also had one which was solved in his second season.
Also glimpsed in the clips are Beep the Meep and the insect-like the Wrarth Warriors, characters from the highly obscure 1980 comic “Doctor Who and the Star Beast”. In that comic, the furry critter uses his cuteness to mark that he’s a criminal mastermind from a violently aggressive war-like race that was defeated – and he’s hiding out on Earth.
The Fifteenth Doctor, played by Ncuti Gatwa, will take control of the TARDIS alongside Millie Gibson as his new companion Ruby Sunday next year, with actors like Jinkx Monsoon and Jonathan Groff playing villains in that series run.
The three “Doctor Who” 60th-anniversary specials air this November.
