CBS has finalised its Fall TV slate and has handed out orders for three new series – the Kathy Bates reboot of “Matlock,” a comedy series starring Damon Wayans and son, and a “The Good Wife”/”The Good Fight” spin-off.
The latter is “Elsbeth,” the third series in Robert and Michelle King’s “Good Wife” franchise, with this one focusing on Carrie Preston’s Emmy award-winning portrayal of fan-favorite character Elsbeth Tascioni.
Jonathan Tolins will serve as showrunner on the series, which sees the astute but unconventional attorney moving from Chicago to New York, where she uses her singular point of view to make unique observations and corner brilliant criminals alongside the NYPD.
The series will also star Wendell Pierce as Captain C.W. Wagner and Carra Patterson as Officer Kaya. The Kings and Liz Glotzer also executive produce.
“Matlock” sees Kathy Bates as the brilliant septuagenarian who rejoins the workforce at a prestigious law firm and uses her unassuming demeanor and wily tactics to win cases and expose corruption from the inside.
Skye P. Marshall, Jason Ritter, David Del Rio and Leah Lewis co-star. Bates, Kat Coiro, Jennie Snyder Urman, Joanna Klein, Eric Christian Olsen and John Will executive produce.
Finally there’s the comedy “Poppa’s House” which will see Damon Wayans Sr. as a celebrated talk radio host and divorced father whose point of view is challenged at work when a new female co-host is hired.
At home, he finds himself still parenting his adult son (Damon Wayans Jr.), a dreamer who is trying to pursue his passion while being a responsible father and husband. Also starring are Essence Atkins and Tetona Jackson.
They join previously renewed CBS shows set for the 2023-24 season, including “48 Hours,” “60 Minutes,” “The Amazing Race,” “Blue Bloods,” Bob Hearts Abishola,” “CSI: Vegas,” “The Equalizer,” “FBI,” “FBI: International,” “FBI: Most Wanted,” “Fire Country,” “Ghosts,” “Lingo,” “NCIS,” “NCIS: Hawaii,” “The Neighborhood,” “So Help Me Todd,” “Survivor,” “S.W.A.T.,” “Tough as Nails” and “Young Sheldon.”
