“The Last of Us” and “The Mandalorian” star Pedro Pascal has signed to star in “Barbarian” filmmaker Zach Cregger’s new horror project “Weapons” at New Line Cinema.
Cregger penned and is directing the film. Whilst plot specifics are under wraps, it is dubbed an “interrelated, multi-story horror epic” with a tone akin to Paul Thomas Anderson’s 1999 ensemble feature “Magnolia”.
The film was the subject of a major bidding war in January as Hollywood studios and streamers fought for the chance to work with Cregger. New Line ultimately won the auction with a deal that included a guaranteed green light and theatrical release.
Character details regarding Pascal have not been revealed. Pascal has been a working actor for many years, with memorable roles in “Narcos” and “Game of Thrones” and films like “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent”. His leading man turn in HBO sensation “The Last of Us” saw his fame skyrocket – and timed well with the arrival of the new season of “The Mandalorian”.
Pascal is now gearing up to go into production on Ridley Scott’s “Gladiator” sequel at Paramount and Ethan Coen’s “Drive-Away Dolls,” and will be seen in September when Pedro Almodovar’s short film “Strange Way of Life” scores a release.
Cregger will also produce alongside his “Barbarian” producers Roy Lee, J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules. Miri Yoon also produces.
