“Strange New Worlds” S3 Production Delayed?

Paramount+

The writer’s strike has begun impacting series with several such as “Stranger Things” and “Severance” having essentially shut down production until the industrial action is sorted out.

However, it appears one series may have quietly hit the pause button before any of the others reported thus far – Paramount+ series “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds”.

According to Trek Central, the series was slated to begin filming its third season on May 2nd – just as the strike action began. However two weeks earlier, on the same day WGA members voted overwhelmingly for strike action on April 17th, the planned filming dates were reportedly removed from the guild listing for the show.

In addition, production notices such as the DGC Hotlist are no longer listing the series. Shooting on the third season was to run through September 28th in Toronto.

On Friday, it was reported in Variety that one ‘substantial’ unnamed series being shot in Toronto was already shut down – “Strange New Worlds” would appear to be it.

The show’s third season won’t air until well into next year, and Paramount+ has the long-completed filming second season arriving on June 15th – that airing will be unaffected by the strike.

Both the ‘Trek’ animated series “Star Trek: Lower Decks” and “Star Trek: Prodigy” are unaffected by the strike as animation unions renegotiated their contracts last year.
