Amazon has officially confirmed prior reports that it has issued a two-season order for Matt Reeves, J.J. Abrams and Bruce Timm’s animated “Batman: Caped Crusader” series.
In addition, Amazon has also picked up an original animated film titled “Merry Little Batman” along with the animated spinoff series “Bat-Family” both from Warner Bros. Animation and DC.
Both “Merry Little Batman” and “Bat-Family” are younger-skewing than ‘Caped Crusader’ and are dubbed a family action-comedy.
HBO Max abandoned plans to move forward with “Batman: Caped Crusader” when Amazon landed the series in March.
Vernon Sanders, head of television at Amazon and MGM Studios, says in a statement:
“Batman: The Animated Series helped pioneer in the evolution of superhero storytelling and defined the Dark Knight for a generation. Batman: Caped Crusader will no doubt continue that tradition and, alongside Merry Little Batman and Bat-Family, we’re thrilled to collaborate with Warner Bros. Animation to offer a variety of takes of the Batman mythos to our global Prime Video customers.”
The “Merry Little Batman” film sees young Damian Wayne transforming into “Little Batman” in order to defend his home and Gotham from the villains who want to destroy the holidays.
That will be followed by “Bat-Family”, which sees Batman, Alfred and Damian Wayne/Little Batman alongside a few newcomers to Wayne Manor as they navigate life as a superfamily.
Jase Ricci, Mike Roth and Sam Register executive produce the series, whilst Roth directs the film from a screenplay by Morgan Evans.
