Hoyeon, Fassbender, Vikander Have “Hope”

Netflix

Emmy-nominated Korean actress and model Hoyeon, who broke out globally for her work as the female lead in Netflix’s “Squid Game,” makes her feature debut in the thriller “Hope” at Plus M Entertainment.

She will join real-life couple – Oscar winner Alicia Vikander and Oscar nominee Michael Fassbender – in the project that marks her first screen work since “Squid Game”.

The project is also a return to filmmaking of Na Hong-Jin, who helmed 2016’s highly acclaimed supernatural thriller “The Wailing” which was a hit in several international territories – snagging $50 million from a $6 million budget.

The largely Korean-language film will follow the residents of Hopo Port, where a mysterious discovery is made on the outskirts of the remote harbor town.

Before long, the residents find themselves in a desperate fight for survival against something they have never encountered before. Hoyeon will play a policewoman.

Fassbender and Vikander, who previously worked together on screen in “The Light Between Oceans,” will speak English in the film and wanted to take part after being impressed by Na’s previous work, which also includes the films “The Chaser” and “The Yellow Sea”.

Also onboard is cinematographer Hong Kyung-pyo who lensed three of the most visually stunning Korean films of recent years – “The Wailing,” “Burning” and Best Picture winner “Parasite”.

Additional casting and pre-production is underway for a shoot later this year in Korea.
