Sky Cancels “Britannia” After Three Seasons

Epix

Sky has opted not to renew its epic historical drama fantasy series “Britannia” for a fourth season, effectively ending the show at three seasons and on a cliffhanger.

The first co-production between Sky and Amazon Prime Video, the series is set in 43 AD, when the Romans invaded Britain after Julius Caesar failed to conquer Britain nearly a century earlier. General Aulus Plautius (David Morrissey) and his second-in-command, Lucius (Hugo Speer) are determined to succeed where Caesar failed, and by any means necessary.

The series has co-starred the likes of Kelly Reilly, Ian McDiarmid, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Zoe Wanamaker, Sophie Okonedo, Mackenzie Crook, David Bradley, Barry Ward, Samantha Colley, Steve Pemberton, Aaron Piere, Daniel Caltagirone and more.

Neal Street Productions and Vertigo Films were behind the series which had Amazon involved in the first season and Epix in the third, along with former “Star Wars” alum Rick McCallum producing that first season.

The third season ended with Cait (Eleanor Worthington Cox) in Rome after being betrayed by her mentor, who has wed General Aulus. Now the show won’t be able to finish that storyline.

Jez Butterworth, Tom Butterworth, and James Richardson created the series which scored good reviews in its time and ultimately produced 27 episoddes airing from 2018 to 2021.

Much of the team involved, including Butterworth and Morrisey, are teaming with Vertigo Films for the new original drama series “The Dirty Squad” about the first expose of corruption within the London Metropolitan Police.
