In a highly unexpected move, high-profile Marvel Studios veteran Victoria Alonso has abruptly exited the company according to THR.

Alonso’s time with the company dates back to the first “Iron Man” and she has served as executive producer on all its titles since the first “Avengers” film hit screens (and was co-producer on almost all of the ones before that).

The reasons for the exit are unclear but she reportedly parted ways with Marvel Friday. During her tenure, the MCU became the highest-grossing franchise in film history and Marvel Studios went from a company operating above a car dealership to being a major part of the Disney empire.

She also served as executive producer on Marvel’s subsequent releases and also worked on its Disney+ TV series. She’s also been an important ambassador for the studio’s representation efforts.

Alonso joined the studio in 2006 as chief of visual effects and post-production and in 2021 was promoted to president, physical and post-production, visual effects and animation production.

She recently produced the Oscar-nominated non-Marvel film “Argentina, 1985”. Her exit follows in the wake of Marvel’s “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” disappointing at the box-office, the film facing criticism for various aspects of its filmmaking and production.
