The theatrical exhibition sector’s savior Tom Cruise is reportedly a big fan of the upcoming “The Flash” movie at Warner Bros. Pictures.
THR reports that the “Mission: Impossible” star has seen the movie and loved it so much that he cold-called the film’s director, Andy Muschietti to rave about it.
Cruise reportedly had a meeting with Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav in late February during which it was mentioned how great the movie was.
Cruise then asked to see it and Zaslav acquiesced, sending a copy of the movie over to Cruise at his home in Beverly Hills with a WB employee staying with the actor until he finished watching the film which the employee then returned it to the studio.
Cruise was reportedly so taken by what he saw that he reached out to Muschietti out of the blue and said “something to the effect that Flash is ‘everything you want in a movie’ and ‘this is the kind of movie we need now'”.
The film has been finished and locked for several months with many inside the studio highly praising it including new DC co-head James Gunn who dubs it “probably one of the greatest superhero movies ever made.”
Cruise’s endorsement marks another boost for the film, though the biggest vote of confidence comes from the fact Warners will screen the film in its entirety for thousands of theater owners at CinemaCon in April – nearly two months before the release date.
Cruise himself meanwhile has been seen as a mascot for the cinema experience of late following the $1.49 billion gross of “Top Gun: Maverick”.
Steven Spielberg famously told the actor “You saved Hollywood’s ass, and you might have saved theatrical distribution” at this year’s Academy Luncheon in an exchange that went viral.
