TriStar Pictures has scored the rights to Spyglass Media Group’s horror slasher feature “Thanksgiving” which is filming in Toronto.

The project is based on the faux trailer that Roth made 16 years ago for “Grindhouse” that follows a killer in a pilgrim costume who visits a small town in Massachusetts with the hopes of creating a carving board out of the town’s Turkey-loving inhabitants.

The original faux trailer was notable for its quite gory kills. Specifics of the feature film version are under wraps, but it is known that the horror thriller will star Patrick Dempsey, Nell Verlaque, Addison Rae, Jalen Thomas Brooks and Milo Manheim.

Roth is directing and producing the project, while Jeff Rendel is writing the screenplay. Roger Birnbaum also produces. TriStar reportedly aggressively pursued the rights to the film with plans to release the movie theatrically worldwide.

Roth broke through as a director of gory horror like “Cabin Fever” and “Hostel” before segueing to various other genres with films like “The House with a Clock in Its Walls”. He has the film adaptation of the video game “Borderlands” coming out later this year which he co-wrote with “The Last of Us” showrunner Craig Mazin.
