Amazon Orders “Batman: Caped Crusader”

Streamers Vying For Batman Caped Crusader
HBO Max

In May last year, HBO Max and Cartoon Network announced a straight-to-series order for the new animated series “Batman: Caped Crusader”.

That project was to be executive produced by filmmakers J.J. Abrams (“Star Wars: The Force Awakens”) and Matt Reeves (“The Batman”), along with original 1990s “Batman: The Animated Series” co-developer Bruce Timm.

The aim was the new series would recapture the magic of the famed early 1990s series with deeper psychological dives and a cinematic noir-style to its presentation.

Then in August came the news that the project had been ditched by HBO Max, one of seven animated projects mostly from Warner Bros. Animation that were being scrapped due to cost-cutting measures by Warner Bros. Discovery.

It has taken time, but now “Batman: Caped Crusader” has finally found a new home as Amazon has reportedly picked up the series and handed out a two-season order for the project.

Comic book scribe Ed Brubaker is among the creative team and ran a writer’s room. He reportedly serves as Timm’s right hand on the ten-episode first season.

No word on a production or release schedule for the series as yet but with the order it at least means work can finally get underway on the project.
