Marvel Offers Multiple Phase 5 Updates

Whenever there’s a major Marvel Studios release, studio boss Kevin Feige will often give away some updates on the various other MCU projects in the works.

Today is no different as whilst out promoting “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” Feige sat down with EW to talk all things Marvel Phase 5 and beyond and revealed quite a few new things.

First up, he confirms with Phase 5 there will be an adjustment to the slate of Disney+ shows: “the pace at which we’re putting out the Disney+ shows will change so they can each get a chance to shine.” Then asked if that means fewer shows and/or more spaced out, he responded: “Both, I think”.

He also says they’re tweaking the shows to be more episodic in nature, and confirms “Daredevil: Born Again” will very much be a show of that nature: “We want to do shows that can only be shows. I want to continue to make them even more episodic, which may seem counterintuitive. But I do think there is something fun about leaning back and watching an episode that can be relatively self-contained.”

Next up, he says Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus Ross is now president of the United States in “Captain America: New World Order” and the film will explore the dynamic between him and Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson. He also confirms “Thunderbolts” will see Bucky Barnes as the de facto leader of that team of unruly antiheroes.

He says “Spider-Man 4” is on the way: “All I will say is that we have the story. We have big ideas for that, and our writers are just putting pen to paper now.”

Feige says Jonathan Majors’ Kang is “the highest-testing villain we’ve ever had in any of our friends and families [screenings]” and cites his work as “The Last Black Man in San Francisco” as a “huge reason we cast him”.

He says Marvel is open to more Moon Knight: “I think there’s a future for that character as we move forward”. With “The Marvels” he says that while both it and “Secret Invasion” are essentially “Captain Marvel” follow-ups, tonally “they couldn’t be more different”.

He confirms “Blade” will kick off filming in “the next ten weeks or so”. Finally, he says people will start to hear more about “Fantastic Four” soon and that “we plan on that being a big pillar of the MCU going forward”.
