Aside from a DC Fandome preview well over a year ago, Warner Bros. Pictures has kept the Andy Muschietti-directed “The Flash” film under wraps – until now. Ahead of the Super Bowl, the studio has released the first official trailer.
Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry Allen (Ezra Miller) uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod (Michael Shannon) has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to.
That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?
The film has reportedly tested very positively by those who’ve seen it, but there’s also been confusion regarding who will be making a cameo in the project following reports of appearances by Henry Cavill’s Superman and Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman being cut.
The trailer shows off a good look at Michael Keaton’s return as Batman along with confirming Ben Affleck’s return as Bruce Wayne, Sasha Calle as Supergirl, and the surprise return of Michael Shannon as General Zod. Ron Livingston, Maribel Verdu, Kiersey Clemons, and Antje Traue also star.
It’s expected a cut-down version of this trailer will air during the Super Bowl itself and go online later this morning. “The Flash” will open in theaters on June 16th 2023.
