Filmmaker Matt Shakman has confirmed that shooting on Marvel Studios’ “Fantastic Four” film will kick off early next year and will be his priority going forward.
Speaking with The Wrap, the “WandaVision” director confirms he’s still finishing off Legendary’s untitled “Godzilla and the Titans” series which is currently in post-production for the next few months.
After that, he segues full time into “Fantastic Four” which will be his focus until it releases on February 14th 2025. He also confirms there is no casting as yet so anything you hear is pure rumor for now.
Shankman also opened up about his decision to exit the next “Star Trek” feature to which he was attached for a little over a year and worked closely with J.J. Abrams on the project until he exited in August last year to join the new “Fantastic Four”:
“Movies have different journeys and momentums and schedules are a little bit mercurial, and so when the ‘Fantastic Four’ opportunity came up, it was just too hard to pass up, and to go back home to Marvel, a place that I worked on ‘WandaVision’ at, with those people who are wonderful collaborators.
It’s really a family there and to be able to go back and tackle something that I truly love, and they’re very similar in some ways: they both were launched in the ’60s at the same time, they’re both about optimism and looking to the stars and technology can solve everything and they’re about family too — the family you have, the family you make. So they’re aligned in many ways and speak to my heart and equally, so I’m excited to be working on ‘Fantastic Four.”
The prolific Shankman counts credits on multiple series on the air right now including “The Great,” “Succession,” “The Boys” and Prime Video’s upcoming “The Consultant”.
