“Thrones” Author’s “Hunter’s Run” Sets Film

Exile Content Studio has picked up the film rights to “Game of Thrones” author George R.R. Martin’s 2007 sci-fi novel “Hunter’s Run,” the only work of his that features a Latino lead.

Martin, Gardner Dozois and Daniel Abraham pen the story, which follows Ramon Espejo – a day laborer on a remote planet where he finds his living conditions no better off than what he left behind on Earth.

He escapes but finds himself both on the run after he kills a diplomat in a bar fight, and from a highly sophisticated alien race trying to stay hidden.

Martin says in a statement: “I’m so pleased that after almost 16 years, ‘Hunter’s Run’ will be made into a film. I’m bursting with excitement for the rich sci-fi universe I helped create with my dear friends Daniel and Gardner to exist beyond the pages of our book.”

Mark Raso (“Copenhagen,” “Kodachrome”) is attached to direct the film, based on an English-language script co-written with his brother Joseph (“Awake”). Both will executive produce alongside Martin and Vince Gerardis (“House of the Dragon”).

Exile Content creates content in Spanish and English for a worldwide audience across multiple platforms including Netflix and HBO.

This marks the latest Martin adaptation for the bigscreen following 2018’s “Nightflyers” on Syfy and last year’s “House of the Dragon”. Netflix previously announced plans for a “Sandkings” adaptation which had Gore Verbinski attached at the time.
