Syfy has renewed both its horror comedies “Chucky” and “Reginald the Vampire” for third and second seasons respectively.
“Child’s Play” creator Don Mancini is behind “Chucky,” which continues on from the films and follows the murderous, serial killer-possessed doll. The show also deals with themes of sexuality, bullying, domestic life and murder as it follows a teenager and his friends as they try and take down the doll.
The series had one of the highest-rated premieres of 2021 in cable television, and the recent second season was among the top 10 dramas in cable among adults 18-49.
Zackary Arthur, Björgvin Arnarson, Alyvia Alyn Lind and Brad Dourif star, whilst Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent and Christine Elise have made guest appearances.
Mancini says in a statement that the “overwhelming response to season two” from both fans and critics has “spurred the official greenlight on season three” which he indicates will be coming later this year with filming likely to begin in the Spring ahead of an October/November debut.
“Reginald the Vampire” is based on the “Fat Vampire” book series by Johnny B. Truant and stars Jacob Batalon as the title character, an average guy turned into a creature of the night – much to the horror of the looks and status-obsessed vampire community.
Mandela Van Peebles, Savannah Basley, Em Haine, Aren Buchholz, Marguerite Hanna and Thailey Roberge also star in the series.
