Filmmaker Nancy Meyers and actress Kate Winslet have shot down rumors that the 2006 seasonal rom-com favorite “The Holiday” will be getting a sequel.
The rumors began swirling yesterday when British tabloid The Sun published a report saying a follow-up was in development with plans to start filming next year in the U.K. and in Europe.
Their source also claimed the main talent are all signed up and on board. However, Meyers denied the claims on Instagram, saying she had received “so many DMs about this – sorry but it’s not true”.
Winslet herself spoke with People magazine about the rumors:
“I read something about that, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it. I promise you not an agent or a representative or anyone from the first one around has had any conversation with me about that. Hand on heart, that’s never come up.”
The original film, which also starred Jack Black, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law, pulled in $205 million at the worldwide box office. It follows the two women – one from a sleepy English village, the other from a Hollywood mansion, who engage in a home swap project for the Christmas period.
“The Holiday” is currently available to stream on Hulu.
