“Magic Mike” Ends With A Half-Hour Dance

Warner Bros. Pictures

The “Magic Mike” films are set for one last big screen grind, and in a new piece in Empire it has been revealed that the Steven Soderbergh-directed third film in the series is going out with a bang.

Specifically, the magazine reports that the new film “Magic Mike’s Last Dance” will close out with a half-hour-long dance sequence.

Soderbergh isn’t holding back on dancing earlier in the film, but there’s no question that the final act will be where it’ll all be laid bare. According to Soderbergh:

“We wanted to blow the dancing up in a big way. We have this dance number with Channing [Tatum] and Salma [Hayek] right up front. And then the last 30-plus minutes of the movie are just this giant dance sequence.”

He also discussed how, due to the film boasting multiple dance sequences, his job is to visually differentiate each of the dances:

“My job is, how do I make each one of these distinct? I can’t shoot them all the same way, I have to come up with a different approach for each dance. And that was really the challenge.”

Talking about how the new film differs from the first two, he says the first movie is a “fairly straightforward rendering of a set of characters who exist in a certain milieu that hasn’t changed since its inception”.

The second was “pushing out a little bit to talk about what women are looking for on a night out in which fantasies and sexuality are explored – and how do you retain a sense of mystery”.

The third film will explore the next step in that dynamic:

“The third film just really dives into this in a much bigger way, partially because for the first time we see Mike in a relationship. So that just allows for a dynamic and a set of discussions that we haven’t had access to, prior to ‘Magic Mike’s Last Dance.'”

“Magic Mike’s Last Dance” is set to move its way into theaters on February 10th.
