A full “Deadpool 3” with co-star Hugh Jackman is on the way, but it has been a bit of a rocky road to get to that point – even with the success of the first two “Deadpool” films.

The Disney-Fox merger caused various headaches, complications and delays behind-the-scenes before the relatively recent announcement that the next film is on the way and Deadpool is becoming a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The film’s leading man Ryan Reynolds recently spoke with The Big Issue and confirmed he once co-wrote a full “Deadpool” Christmas movie with original writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick helping out. Unfortunately the Disney-Fox merger saw it scrapped:

“Four years ago [‘Deadpool’ co-writers] Rhett Reese, Paul Wernick and I wrote a Christmas movie starring Deadpool. But it got lost in the shuffle of Disney acquiring Fox, and it never got made. Maybe one day we’ll get to make that movie. It’s not a musical, but it’s a full Deadpool Christmas movie. So one day.”

For now, Reynolds is working with the scribes again, along with Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige, on the new “Deadpool” film which is tipped to be the MCU’s first R-rated film and is targeting a November 8th 2024 release.
