The 18-24 demographic are returning to cinemas in a big way, according to a recent Fandango survey of 1,000 participants.

The survey found James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” as being the biggest release that Gen-Z plans to see before the end of the year with “Strange World,” “Babylon,” “Violent Night” and “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” following after.

The study also found the following results:

96% identified moviegoing as a favorite way to spend time outside of their home

94% say moviegoing is a top-three recreational activity, only topped by streaming TV shows and social media screen time.

94% make moviegoing decisions based on an interesting trailer.

94% were happy with their cinema visits over the past year

91% are more likely to go to the theater for a film that demands to be seen on a big screen, with big sound and a receptive audience.

87% say there is no way the moviegoing experience can be recreated at home.

78% claimed they are seeing more movies in cinemas now than they did before the pandemic.

Just over two-thirds are looking forward to seeing more films this season in premium large formats like IMAX and Dolby Cinema/

Fandango VP Domestic Ticketing Melissa Heller says Gen Z fans were a key contributor to last week’s opening weekend presales for “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”, which had the biggest opening weekend in months.
