“Coronation Street” regular Millie Gibson has been cast as Ruby Sunday, the companion to Ncuti Gatwa’s The Doctor, in the next full series of “Doctor Who”.
The casting was revealed during this year’s Children in Need broadcast on BBC One. “Doctor Who” script editor Scott Handcock said secret auditions were held for the new companion in September with Gatwa in attendance.
David Tennant and Catherine Tate will return to “Doctor Who” for three special episodes, set to air in November 2023 to mark the show’s 60th anniversary.
Gatwa is expected to make an appearance there before getting a full season of his own, which is where Gibson comes in. Gatwa’s first full episode is said to be airing “over the festive period” in 2023.
