Iranian man Mehran Karimi Nasseri, whose life story inspired Steven Spielberg’s 2004 feature “The Terminal,” died of a heart attack Saturday at Terminal 2F of Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris according to NBC News.
Nasseri lived in Terminal 1 of said airport for eighteen years before leaving in 2006. He reportedly took up residence there again in the weeks before his passing and was thought to be approximately 76 years old.
In 1988, Nasseri’s lack of residency papers for both the country he was trying to leave, and the one he was trying to enter, left him in legal limbo. When paperwork issues were eventually ironed out, Nasseri chose to continue living there.
