The Sympathizer
Sandra Oh, Kieu Chinh and Nguyen Cao Ky Duyen have landed key recurring roles in the espionage thriller/cross-culture satire series “The Sympathizer” based on Viet Thanh Nguyen’s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.
The story details the struggles of a half-French, half-Vietnamese communist spy during the final days of the Vietnam War and his resulting exile in the United States. Robert Downey Jr. produces whilst Park Chan-wook directs and serves as co-showrunner. [Source: Deadline]

“Weird: The Al Yankovic Story” biopic director Eric Appel has been set to direct and write the fast-tracked comedy “Stepdude” for Sony Pictures. The plot is being kept under wraps. Matt Tolmach, Jack Black and Roz Music will produce. [Source: Deadline]
Murdaugh Murders
Hulu is developing the scripted series “Murdaugh Murders” based on Alex Murdaugh’s stranger-than-fiction family drama, which was the subject of the recent HBO Max “Low Country” docuseries.
The Murdaugh family were powerful players in the Lowcountry region of South Caroline, wielding great legal and political influence. Michael D. Fuller and Erin Lee Carr are co-creators and will serve as executive producer alongside Nick Antosca and Alex Hedlund. Fuller is also set to serve as showrunner. [Source: Variety]
Sinking Spring
Kate Mulgrew will play the defacto mother of Brian Tyree Henry’s character in the Apple TV+ series “Sinking Spring” based on Dennis Tafoya’s book “Dope Thief”. Ridley Scott, David W. Zucker, Jordan Sheehan, Clayton Krueger and Peter Craig executive produce.
The eight-episode series follows long-time Philadelphia friends and delinquents who pose as DEA agents to rob an unknown house in the countryside, only to unwittingly reveal and unravel the biggest hidden narcotics corridor on the Eastern seaboard. [Source: Variety]
