The first photo has been released of David Tennant as Russian defector Alexander Litvinenko in the upcoming “Litvinenko” mini-series for ITVX.
The photo is a recreation of the internationally famous image of the former FSB & KGB officer in a University College Hospital bed shortly before his passing in November 2006.
The man died of polonium-210 poisoning, claiming it to be on direct orders of Vladimir Putin as punishment for his dissent. His death inspired numerous theories and a legitimate investigation by London’s Metropolitan Police that strained relations between the United Kingdom and Russia.
The series will follow the New Scotland Yard officers who worked the case, along with his widow Marina (Margarita Levieva), who pressured the British government to publicly acknowledge Russia’s involvement. Mark Bonnar and Neil Maskell co-star.
“Lupin” screenwriter George Kay is behind the project, which was reportedly created with the full support of many key players involved in the real-life investigation. Jim Field Smith directs.
“Litvinenko” will stream exclusively on ITVX this December and will be released on AMC+ in the U.S.
