Gunn: DC Focus Will Be ‘Going Forward’

Warner Bros. Pictures

In response to numerous Twitter pleas such as #SaveLegendsofTomorrow and #ReleaseTheAyerCut, DC Studios’ new co-CEO James Gunn took to the social media platform to give fans an idea of where the studio’s current plans sit.

The DC fandom has varying desires and reactions to what’s come out. The push for a revival of the canceled “Legends of Tomorrow,” and the release of the Ayer cut of the original “Suicide Squad” being just two of many.

Gunn, who shares the role of CEO of DC Studios with producer Peter Safran, has been pretty active on social media over the years. Though his new position is obviously keeping him busier than usual, he says he wants to be transparent about the studio’s future:

“Opened up Twitter at the end of a long, creative weekend to see the many tweets to #SaveLegendsofTomorrow & #ReleaseTheAyerCut & fan support for other DC projects over the years. The majority of these requests were enthusiastic & respectful.

As the new (& first ever) CEOs of DC Studios, Peter & I think it’s important we acknowledge you, the fans, & let you know we hear your different desires for the pathways forward for DC.

Although our ability to interact on Twitter has been lessened due to the workload of our new positions, we are listening & open to everything as we embark on this journey, & will continue to do so for the next few years.

But all our initial focus is on the story going forward, hammering out the new DCU, & telling the Biggest Story Ever Told across multiple films, television shows, & animated projects. We invite all of the DC fandoms from across the multiverse — and everyone else as well — into this new universe. We can’t wait to reveal more.”

That would suggest they’re only looking forward, not back. The pre-Gunn era DC will continue heavily in 2023 with several films from the “Aquaman” sequel to “The Flash” and “Blue Beetle” whilst on TV there’s the final season of “The Flash” and another of “Superman and Lois”.

Short of Henry Cavill’s return as Superman, it’s not clear where things will go with DC in the future until Gunn & co. make their plans clearer.
