Trailer: Wong Kar-Wai’s “Blossoms Shanghai”

Jet Tone Production

Hong Kong filmmaker Wong Kar Wai is known for his lush visual shot compositions with emotionally evocative use of color and shadow.

The maker of celebrated movies such as “Chungking Express” and “Happy Together” hasn’t released a film in nearly a decade – his last being 2013’s “The Grandmaster”.

Now he finally returns with a new trailer for “Blossoms Shanghai,” his new project which follows a self-made millionaire in Shanghai during the 1990s – a man who rises from a young opportunist with a troubled past to the heights of the gilded city.

The project also serves as the third part of a ‘romantic trilogy’ of sorts alongside his masterpiece “In The Mood For Love” and the lesser-seen “2046”. Originally produced as a TV series, Wong is editing the project down into a feature film.

Hu Ge, Ma Yili, Tang Yan, and Xin Zhilei star and Wong directs this adaptation of Jin Yucheng’s award-winning novel with Qin Wen adapting the script. “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” cinematographer Peter Pau served as lenser

“Blossoms Shanghai” is expected in cinemas in 2023.
