Netflix has officially launched its lower-cost ad-supported tier, which is now available to subscribers for $6.99 per month.
‘Basic with Ads’ sees the original streaming giant join many of its major competitors as services that are offering an ad-supported tier on their platform.
It has been revealed that several popular Netflix series are missing from the ‘Basic with Ads’ library due to licensing restrictions – including Netflix originals “House of Cards” and latter seasons of “Arrested Development” (both of which are based on previous series created elsewhere).
Various other licensed series are also not available with the ad tier, including “Peaky Blinders,” “The Magicians,” “The Good Place” and “Friday Night Lights” among others.
Netflix previously indicated that around 5-10% of programming would be missing from the Basic With Ads tier at launch.
