Damien Leone’s ultra-gory horror breakout sensation “Terrifier 2” has been submitted for Oscar consideration, according to producers Bloody Disgusting.
The film, made on a mere $250,000 crowd-funded budget, has shocked the industry by grossing nearly $8 million to date and counting – fueled by reports of the extreme gore causing some viewers to vomit or faint.
It’s not expected the film will score any award nominations, with a statement from the celebrated horror website (created by Brad Miska) going into the reasons for the submission:
“No, it [a nomination] will never actually happen. Yes, it’s a total goof. But you know what? The thought of having members of the Academy endure an extreme unrated horror movie that they would otherwise consider beneath them? That’s just too hilarious of an opportunity to pass up.”
Writer-director Damien Leone already has ideas for a third “Terrifier” movie and said last month that it has been ‘surreal’ to hear reports about the film.
“Terrifier 2” continues to play in select theaters and is now also available to stream on Screambox.
