The upcoming Marvel Studios film “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” boasts a new antagonist, this time in the form of iconic comic character Namor the Submariner.
The leader of the advanced Talocan underwater civilization, the Namor of the film boasts a costume akin to Mesoamerican cultures – albeit with one key difference.
A new TV spot for the film has Shuri remarking that Namor is “covered in vibranium” – the near unbreakable metal that Captain America’s shield is composed of and which can only be mined in Wakanda.
Of course Mexican actor Tenoch Huerta’s outfit isn’t exactly ‘covered’ as he sports a square cut trunks variation of the green speedos of his comics counterpart throughout the movie. Speaking with Men’s Health about getting into Submariner shape for the film, the actor revealed he dubbed his outfit his “shame shorts”.
Upon signing up he realised he had about five months to get into “Namor shape.” As a result, he hired two local trainers and trained six days a week, doing long sessions in the pool and learning free diving along with extended breath holding. In the process, he dropped 20 pounds while “packing on size in targeted areas” with plenty of compound and bodyweight exercises.
“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” opens in cinemas on November 11th and is reportedly on track to open in the realm of the $202 million opening weekend of its predecessor.
