Kevin Spacey Wins Anthony Rapp Lawsuit

Netflix

A jury has ruled in favor of actor Kevin Spacey in the $40 million lawsuit filed by “Star Trek: Discovery” actor Anthony Rapp.

Rapp accused Spacey of sexually assaulting him as a 14-year-old teenager at a party at Spacey’s apartment in 1986. However the jury dismissed the core battery claim after one hour of deliberation and nine days of testimony in a New York court.

A judge had dismissed the claim of assault prior to the trial and then dismissed Rapp’s claim of intentional infliction of emotional distress. Rapp first came out about the alleged abuse in a 2017 Buzzfeed article.

This civil trial marked the first instance of sexual abuse allegations against Spacey actually going to court. Two other possible cases were dropped and a third lawsuit was dismissed after the accuser’s death in 2019.

This means “House of Cards” actor Spacey is now legally clear in the United States, but still faces criminal charges in England over assault allegations between 2005 and 2008. He has pled not guilty to all charges and will face trial in London in June.
