No Plans For “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners” S2

Netflix

Netflix’s anime series “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners,” a spin-off of 2021’s major video game “Cyberpunk 2077” from CD Projekt Red, launched on the service on September 13th.

The show scored a widely positive critical reaction – landing one of the streaming platform’s highest review scores to date. It has also been a huge hit for its creators, having been in Netflix’s global top ten for over a month.

Earlier today Netflix acknowledged it seems to have done well for the game too, with a big uptick in the number of players recently tackling the title on PC due to a new patch, a discount and the show’s launch.

Despite the success though, CD Projekt Red’s Japan country manager Satoru Honma told Famitsu (via VGC) this week that there were no plans to continue the story:

“I personally would like to continue to work with Japanese studios to produce more anime in the future, partly because we have received very good feedback.

However, just to be clear, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners was planned as a standalone work, so there’s no such thing as ‘we are actually working on Season 2 in the background’.

Even if we could make more anime in the future, I don’t know if it would be Season 2 or something completely different.”

Thus the ten-episode anime series, which hails from Tokyo-based animation company Studio Trigger, is one and done.

CD Projekt announced earlier this month that it’s working on a sequel to “Cyberpunk 2077” among other projects, including the ‘Phantom Liberty’ DLC for the first game with Sasha Grey set to voice the host a new in-game radio station.
