Netflix Breaks Original Series Episode Count

Netflix Loses Subscribers Talks Crackdown

A common complaint about Netflix has always been one of quantity-versus-quality with the streaming giant known for producing and pushing out a lot more content than its brethren.

That remains true this past quarter of the year as Netflix has reportedly broken its own record for number of original episodes released in a single quarter, with 1,026 episodes dropped on the service in the third quarter of 2022.

Wall Street firm MoffettNathanson came up with the figures using survey data from HarrisX. It reveals Netflix’s numbers to be more than five times that of any other streaming rival. In the same quarter Amazon Prime released 223 episodes, Hulu released 194, Disney+ released 140 and HBO Max released 114.

Netflix reportedly premiered 159 original and exclusive shows in the third quarter, topping the previous high-water mark of 143 in the final quarter of 2021. “The Sandman,” “Monster,” “Cobra Kai,” “Stranger Things,” “Locke & Key,” etc. all had new episodes.

The episode count doesn’t include licensed second-run shows for Netflix either such as “The Flash,” “Riverdale,” “Dynasty” or kids shows like “CoComelon” – all of which dropped new episodes on the service in that quarter.
