Hasbro’s Entertainment One is working on a documentary feature about popular roleplaying tabletop game franchise “Dungeons & Dragons”.
The documentary aims to coincide with the game’s 50th anniversary in 2024 and will draw on archived footage dating back to the game’s creation in the early 1970s.
The feature will also explore the game’s current state of play, its passionate fanbase, and its global cultural impact.
Actor/writer Joe Manganiello will co-direct the project with Kyle Newman. His brother Nick Manganiello, along with Anthony Savini and Cecily Tyler, will produce.
The doco feature is separate from, the live-action movie coming next year starring Chris Pine and Rege Jean-Page, a TV series in the works hailing from “John Wick” creator Derek Kolstad, and documentary studio XTR’s “Role Players” which also explores the franchise.
