Urban Myth Films and Andy Serkis’ The Imaginarium company are teaming to adapt Robin Hardy’s iconic 1973 horror classic “The Wicker Man” into a TV series.
BAFTA-winner Howard Overman (“Misfits) has penned the script, and rights have been acquired from Studiocanal to adapt the property with early pitching currently happening to potential broadcasters.
Edward Woodward and Christopher Lee starred in the story of a devout Christian police officer investigating the disappearance of a young girl. he travels to a remote island where he finds the Islanders paying homage to the pagan Celtic gods of their ancestors.
The property was remade by Hollywood in 2006 with Nicolas Cage starring as the cop. Overman says the new adaptation will differ from the original but will “explore the same themes of sacrifice, superstition and ritual that were at its core.”
