Following in the wake of the show’s first reveal trailer the other day, “Velma” showrunner Charlie Grandy has talked about the possibility of a crossover between the “Scooby-Doo” spin-off and another HBO Max adult animated property spun-off from a major franchise – “Harley Quinn”.
Mindy Kaling stars as the voice of Velma Dinkley for the “Velma” series. The character, now of South Asian heritage, is the highly intelligent cardigan-wearing member of the Scooby gang alongside Daphne (Constance Wu), Shaggy (Sam Richardson), and Fred (Glenn Howerton).
Following the show’s New York Comic-Con panel, Grandy spoke with ComicBook.com and revealed he’s not only open to the idea of a crossover with the critically acclaimed “Harley Quinn,” he seems to think it could happen in the future:
“If this is a success or does take off, there will absolutely be talks about doing something. Again, that honors the original show, and we want to honor the original Scooby as much as we can. So that’s baked into the DNA of the original. So we’ll look for ways to do our take on that.”
Both shows are expected to be tonally similar to each other, and both deal with female characters often considered sidekicks who finally get their own stories. In addition “Scooby-Doo” is famed for its crossovers and the Scooby cartoons have had guest appearances of DC characters like Wonder Woman in the past.
“Velma” premieres on HBO Max in 2023.
