Ryan Murphy Tops Both Netflix Lists

Netflix

Ryan Murphy’s true crime limited series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” is still Netflix’s top rater for now. The series has dominated the streamer’s global TV series chart since its release almost three weeks ago.

This week though, another Murphy-produced effort has topped Netflix’s other big global list with the feature adaptation of Stephen King’s “Mr. Harrigan’s Phone” taking the top spot on the streamer’s film chart globally. That film hit the service on Wednesday.

This is believed to be the first time a producer has held the two top spots simultaneously, and he was reportedly doing so in 60 countries as of Friday. Previously the closest is believed to be Shawn Levy whose film “The Adam Project” hit #1 in March, whilst “Stranger Things 4” hit #1 in May.

It marks needed success for Murphy in the third year of his massive overall deal with Netflix, which until now has generated series like “Hollywood,” “Halston,” “The Prom,” “Ratched” and “The Politician” – most of which were limited series and none of which drew either major acclaim or big numbers in the way his work at FX does.

Despite the success of “Dahmer,” questions remain as to the value of the overall deal. Murphy will return soon with his new horror-themed limited series “The Watcher” arriving next week.
