“Avatar” Producer On Fourth Film & Biomes

The second “Avatar” film doesn’t hit until December, but already producer Jon Landau has talked about the future beyond the next film a bit more during a recent press conference at the Busan International Film Festival.

He confirmed to Variety the long standing reports that the early part of the fourth film has already completed filming, saying:

“We’ve completed most of the first act of Avatar 4 and there were logistical reasons why we needed to do that. We’ve designed most of the whole movie for ‘Avatar 4’ but we haven’t actually filmed all of it – just the first act.”

He also indicates that while the first film was rainforest focused and the new one ocean focused, further entries in the series will explore other environments across the planet of Pandora:

“We could not have delivered what people saw today, five years ago, eight years ago, nine years ago. We needed the time to take it to the level that we’re able to deliver to people today… with each sequel, we’re going to introduce audiences to new cultures and new biomes. We don’t leave behind the cultures that we’ve met.”

Filming on second, third, and a bit of the fourth film began simultaneously in 2017 and ran through until 2020. The full fourth and fifth films have already been greenlit.
