Peacock has premiered the trailer for “I Love You, You Hate Me,” an upcoming two-part documentary series about the dark legacy of Barney the Dinosaur from the 1992 children’s TV program “Barney & Friends”.
The purple character had many years of popularity amongst little kids and worldwide success in the 1990s and early 2000s, promoting messages of inclusion, acceptance, and love.
However the new limited series explores the other side of the story, chronicling the rise and fall of Barney the Dinosaur’s furious backlash, how it impacted those close to it, and the part the character unwittingly ended up playing in the beginnings of modern-day hate culture.
As the synopsis says: “From Barney-bashing to frat parties to homicidal video games, something in American society broke into a million pieces, and it’s never been put together again… or is this just who we were all along?”
“I Love You, You Hate Me” will air on Peacock on Wednesday, October 12th.
