Last weekend saw the biggest hack in gaming industry history as over 90 videos from the still-in-development “Grand Theft Auto VI” were leaked online after someone had hacked into Rockstar Games.
Today, the City of London Police’s Twitter account has confirmed the arrest of a 17-year-old individual in Oxfordshire earlier today, the arrest being “on suspicion of hacking, as part of an investigation supported by the NCA UK’s National Cyber Crime Unit”.
Journalist Matthew Keys subsequently reported on Twitter that, according to his sources, the arrest was made in relation to the Rockstar Games leak and was made in partnership with the FBI who were investigating the hack.
Further details from the police are expected in the next few hours and the hacker remains in custody at this time.
Rockstar Games previously released a statement about the hack on Monday, saying it does not expect “any disruption to our live game services nor any long-term effect on the development of our ongoing projects” as a result of last weekend’s leak.
As a movie of solidarity with Rockstar, several other developers have released early development footage of their games showing incomplete gameplay and visuals as discussions in the wake of the leak revealed many players don’t have an accurate picture of how game development works.
