Queen’s Death Impacts “The Crown” Viewership

Netflix

The death of Queen Elizabeth II late last week has, not unexpectedly, led to renewed interest in “The Crown” series on Netflix.

Analytics firm Whip Media says in the three days after the Queen’s passing, the show’s viewership in the U.K. reportedly increased more than 800% compared with the previous Friday-Sunday period. In the U.S. the increase was more than quadruple while in “France” it tripled.

Overall worldwide viewership of the series increased nearly four times over the past weekend versus the previous weekend.

The show, which charts decades of the late monarch’s life and events starting in the late 1940s and ending in the early 2000s, returns with a fifth season starting in November.

In the new run, Imelda Staunton will play Queen Elizabeth, Jonathan Pryce is Prince Philip, Dominic West is Prince Charles, Elizabeth Debicki is Princess Diana, Olivia Williams is Camilla Parker Bowles and Jonny Lee Miller is Prime Minister John Major.
