Filmmaker Rupert Sanders’ upcoming reimagining of 1994 cult classic “The Crow” will become the first major international production to shoot at the just-opened Penzing Studios.
The complex is a former air force base in Penzing, 30 miles west of Munich, Germany. The currently expanding complex plans to convert the former airplane hangars into 12 soundstages with a total of 270,000 square feet of production space.
Though it will have a focus on digital and virtual production, the studio also boasts a square mile of backlot with several practical locations, including a full hospital.
All virtual production on “The Crow” will be done at Penzing, with location shoots in Prague and Munich. The majority of the film’s digital asset creation and VFX work is being done in Bavaria in Germany.
The story follows a man (Bill Skarsgard) and his fiancee (TFKA wigs) who are assaulted and killed by a gang after the couple’s car breaks down. The man is resurrected by a crow and exacts vengeance on those who took the pair’s lives. Danny Huston co-stars.
Based on James O’Barr comic and adapted by Zach Baylin (“King Richard”), the film has Victor Hadida, Molly Hassell, John Jencks and Edward R. Pressman producing.
