In the feel-good story of the day, Darren Aronofsky’s “The Whale” had a triumphant world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
Receiving a seven-minute standing ovation on Sunday evening, the film’s star Brendan Fraser was visibly moved and emotional as extended applause rang out for his performance.
Fraser has scored rave reviews for his performance in the psychological drama about a reclusive English teacher living with severe obesity who attempts to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter (Sadie Sink) for one last chance at redemption.
Already there’s talk he’s going to be the man to beat for the Best Actor race this year. The premiere also marked a return to Venice for Aronofsky who premiered both 2008’s “The Wrestler” and 2010’s “Black Swan” there.
A24 releases “The Whale” domestically on December 9th.
