Warner Bros. Pictures has pushed New Line’s adaptation of Stephen King’s vampire novel “Salem’s Lot” from September 9th to April 21st 2023. As no marketing had begun yet for the film, a delay isn’t a big issue.
The delay in the Gary Dauberman-directed film is said to be due to COVID-related issues in the post production realm along with a handful of days of additional photography required that were done just six weeks ago.
Warners has been a keen holder of the post Labor Day weekend slot for its horror titles with the “IT” films and “The Nun” doing good business in that slot. Warners is also temporarily taking its remakes of “Train to Busan” and “House Party” off the schedule with both temporarily undated.
The exit of “Salem’s Lot” paints a bleak box-office picture for the next few months. Aside from a few small-medium films like “The Woman King” and “Don’t Worry Darling” opening in September, there are literally no major studio releases between “Bullet Train” on August 5th and “Halloween Ends” on October 14th.
Baz Luhrmann has reportedly asked that “Elvis” stick around in cinemas and not make the jump to VOD until the Fall, and the lack of titles coming through could help his case.
