You can forget any of those reports about Christian Bale showing up as Batman in cameos in any upcoming DC film.
Out doing promotional rounds for “Thor: Love and Thunder,” the actor closed the door on any chance of playing Bruce Wayne/Batman for a fourth time unless one key stipulation was met. That requirement? That Christopher Nolan must direct.
Bale, who played the role in three Nolan-directed films from “Batman Begins” in 2005 to “The Dark Knight Rises” in 2012, tells ScreenRant he’d be down to return if Nolan came up with a good enough idea:
“No one’s ever mentioned it [reprising Batman] to me. No one’s brought it up. Occasionally people say to me, ‘Oh, I hear you were approached and offered all this.’ And I’m like, ‘That’s news to me. No one’s ever said that.’
I had a pact with Chris Nolan. We said, ‘Hey, look. Let’s make three films, if we’re lucky enough to get to do that. And then let’s walk away. Let’s not linger too long.’
In my mind, it would be something if Chris Nolan ever said to himself, ‘You know what, I’ve got another story to tell.’ And if he wished to tell that story with me, I’d be in.”
Since Bale finished playing Batman, both Ben Affleck and Robert Pattinson have taken on the role – the latter in this year’s “The Batman” which grossed $770 million worldwide. Bale recently admitted he hasn’t seen the new film yet but has nothing but high praise for Pattinson.
