Whannell In Talks To Direct Green Hornet
Universal Pictures

Leigh Whannell (“The Invisible Man,” “Upgrade”) is in negotiations to direct “The Green Hornet and Kato” for Universal Pictures.

The studio reportedly received a script from David Koepp earlier this year which they are very happy about and have been keen to work with Whannell again following the acclaim and business that his “Invisible Man” reimagining pulled in.

Should a deal close, the film will then be fast-tracked to the pre-production stages.

First created by George W. Trendle and Fran Striker in 1936, The Green Hornet was one of early radio’s most popular adventure shows before being turned into 1940s movie serials and a 1966 TV series that starred Bruce Lee as Kato.

The story centers around Britt Reid, owner/publisher of The Daily Sentinel. Armed with knowledge from his sources, weapons, a car known as The Black Beauty, and his trusty aide Kato, Reid became vigilante crime fighter The Green Hornet who is wanted by the police and feared by crooks everywhere.

Evan Goldberg and star Seth Rogen previously adapted the property to film in 2011 with Seth Rogen and Jay Chou. Michael Helfant and Bradley Gallo will produce the new film.
