Just a week after its third season premiere, Amazon Prime has ordered a swift fourth season renewal for the darkly comedic superhero satire “The Boys”.
Like with the second season, Amazon opted to launch three of the new run’s eight episodes at launch on June 3rd with weekly episodes to follow through July 8th.
In a statement, creator and showrunner Eric Kripke says:
“Speaking for the cast and crew, we’re so grateful to Sony, Amazon, and most of all the fans for embracing the show and allowing us to make more. We’re thrilled to continue Butcher and the Boys’ fight against Homelander and the Seven, as well as comment on the insane world we’re living in. Also, this is the first time in history that exploding genitalia has led to further success.”
While specific viewing numbers haven’t been revealed, Amazon says the global audience for the new season’s first three episodes in its first three days grew by 17% over the second season.
Nielsen estimated the second season debuted to 891 million minutes of viewing time back in September 2020. Third season numbers from the agency will come at a later date.
