SPOILERS AHEAD FOR “STAR TREK: PICARD” S2 FINALE

Paramount+ has already shot a third season of “Star Trek: Picard” which is tipped to air next year, but when it does it’ll be missing four of its core cast members.

Santiago Cabrera, Allison Pill, Evan Evagora and Isa Briones are all confirmed to be bowing out of next season.

All have been regulars across the first two seasons – Cabrera the gruff ship captain Cristobal Rios, Allison Pill the scientist Dr. Jurati, Evagora the Romulan protege Elnor, and Briones was both the android Soji and the genetically modified Korre.

Rios chooses to stay behind in the 21st century whilst Korre has gone off with Wesley Crusher (Wil Wheaton) and the other Travelers – making their exits the most understandable and natural to the story. Despite Wheaton’s cameo, the actor confirmed in a blog post that’s it for him and he’s not going to pop up in the show’s third season.

Evagora was killed in the first episode of the second season with the character mostly absent before a brief revival in the final minutes. Pill meanwhile has become the new Borg Queen and was seen in the final minutes of the episode.

Storywise it seems you would expect both to return but both actors have confirmed on social media and in an interview respectively they’re not involved next season at all. Thus explaining their absence will be interesting.

With their exits, that just leaves Patrick Stewart as Jean-Luc Picard alongside a key trio of women – Jeri Ryan as Seven-of-Nine, Michelle Hurd as Raffi and Orla Brady as Laris/Tallinn. While both Ryan and Hurd have confirmed their returns, Brady hasn’t and indications from social media suggest if she is in the new season it’s only in a limited capacity.

They may be gone, but the legacy cast of “Star Trek: The Next Generation” are returning with Brent Spiner, Jonathan Frakes and Marina Sirtis all back along with Levar Burton, Michael Dorn and Gates McFadden joining them.
